Kabul, September 27: Taking the actions against the accounts related to the Taliban Ministers, United States-based Social Media giant Twitter has removed the verified badges from the accounts of various Taliban Ministries.
Reports suggest that social media giants took the action to stop them from spreading Islamist propaganda, fundamentalist ideology, or misinformation from using official VIP accounts.
According to the Afghanistan news channel,
Twitter has removed the blue verification badge from the Twitter accounts of the Foreign Ministry, Defence Ministry, Interior Ministry, Presidential Palace, and National Procurement Authority.
Twitter also removed the blue verification badge from the Former Vice President Amrullah Saleh’s Twitter handle who had recently declared himself as the president of Afghanistan. Most of Afghanistan’s official Twitter accounts for the government have been inactive since the Taliban takeover.
It is been over a month since the Taliban captured Kabul after an aggressive and rapid advance against Afghanistan government forces amid the withdrawal of US and NATO troops from the country. The country plunged into crisis last month after Kabul fell to the Taliban and the democratically elected government of former president Ashraf Ghani collapsed.
In addition, the blue badge has been removed from the account of former vice president Amrullah Saleh but it existed on the account of second Vice President Sarwar Danesh.
